Wardroad – An Initiative by Anya Boutique & Kambaa Incorporation, Coimbatore

Anya Boutique and Kambaa Incorporation,an IT Startup based out of PSG STEP Coimbatore have joined hands together for this noble Initiative. We have come up with an exciting idea ‘Wardroad – The Roadside Wardrobe’.
This initiative was inaugurated by Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, Dr.Vijayakarthikeyan at Anya Boutique, Crosscut Road, Gandhipuram. The second wardroad was implemented at Anya Boutique, Lokamanya Street East RS Puram, on the same day. Ms.Deepa Mohan from Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy graced the occasion.

The thoughts of providing the needy with good clothes was in our mind for the past couple of years. Three months back, we consolidated our idea of pooling used clothes in good conditions and distributing to the needy. Most of us refresh our wardrobes with new arrivals very frequently, which makes some of the existing clothes get dumped in a corner. What if we could provide those ‘unnoticed’ or ‘dumped’ clothes to someone who would cherish it till it gets torn?

Through ‘Wardroad’ we will be collecting clothes which are neatly washed, ironed and in wearable condition. The Wardroad team will segregate the clothes collected through the initiative according to size, gender and usability. An IT system has been developed to manage and monitor the collection, segregation and distribution so that this could become a highly scalable and replicable model. The person / entity who has received the clothes, quantity, and other details would be stored in the process and reflect in the website ensuring transparency of the process to the public.

24/7, 365 days right across the busy streets of Coimbatore is Wardroad for you. The Wardroad is not a dumping place for clothes, it’s a sophisticated process which allows the donors to deposit few clothes at a time. Wardroad is made of steel and has been designed to withstand extreme weather condition, secured to a larger extent and also has a wardrobe of the clothes deposited on display.

At present the Wardroad has been kept for deposits at Anya’s RS Puram and their Crosscut road branch. We have plans to place Wardroad(s) in multiple places in Coimbatore and there has been an overwhelming response to sponsor Wardroad(s) to be placed in public places, Institutions, Hostels and Corporate houses. We will be spreading the network in steps.

There is a clear roadmap in place in terms of activities, collaborations with the society, campaigns to be launched and expansion. A birthday concept will be shortly launched allowing people to deposit new dresses in the ‘Wardroad’ which would be distributed to the needy on their birthdays. A picture of them will be clicked and sent to the donor, as well. We appreciate if the bags could be tagged with the details of the contributor.

Look forward for your support to contribute and be a part of Team Wardroad…
